The composer Darren Korb is really good at mixing acoustic guitar with several other influences to evoke the old west mixed with an exotic fantasy world. He has described the soundtrack using the phrase "acoustic frontier trip-hop":
When Darren started, he had an idea of what the creative direction for the game was and the core tone of what we were going for. He then developed a musical motif that he describes as "acoustic frontier trip-hop." Those three things may sound like they don't make much sense, but they do fit together in a cohesive way in our game.
Haven't played the game nor listened a lot to these tracks honestly, save for A Proper Story, which has etched itself into memory. The acoustic guitar riff mixed with strumming and electronic beats sounds so groovy. It's a shame the track is so short.
In Case of Trouble has a nice and crisp strumming pattern. It might be a bit of stretch but I find the motif comparable to Working in the Mill from The Hobbit
Spike In a Rail feels somewhat similar, but is more of an energetic and electronic western. It uses rythmic guitar riffs and layers of banjo and harmonica as western motifs.
Other than that The Bottom Feeders stand out to me as an interesting track. The arabic sounding flute, electronic percussion, dragging synth and clear acoustic guitar craft a quite unique soundscape.
Build That Wall (Zia's Theme) sounds familiar to something else I have heard, but the it's not exactly a very unique strumming pattern, so it could be a lot of songs.
