This is going to be a short one unfortunately. But I gotta say that the complex soundtrack gets more and more and interesting everytime I listen to it. Might have to expand this post later on 🤔.
the WORLD - Nightmare is the opening theme for the first part of the show.
L's theme uses a mysterious and almost analytical sounding repetitive piano melody and a clear electric guitar picking to build tension. Partway through a distorted guitar playing power chords take over and starts playing the same riff in a rougher manner. It feels like a musical piece of cat-and-mouse play, mirroring the dynamic between Light and L.
L's theme B on the other hand, has a more eccentric feel to it, depicting L's complex analytical thinking.
Kincho is an interesting atmospheric percussive track, giving of a tense and deeply analytical vibe.
Senritsu is a good alternative rock track with minimal piano notes in the background.
Many of the tracks feature voices resembling a classical choir, but with an almost haunting vibe. This helps builds tension, adds a layer of eerie intensity and emphasizes the psychological and philosophical themes of the series. Some examples are:
Low on Solipsism describes Light's character development towards a god-complex and getting more and more detached from others. This fits well with the philosophical idea of solipsism: Only one's mind is sure to exist.
